The Finale of Summer Frenzy

Hi Friends!

It’s starting to feel like it truly is the finale of summer frenzy. It’s been a while since I’ve written a farm pointer, and here’s a brief snapshot of why:

We had some terrible flatline winds that took down our greenhouse.

Because of said greenhouse catastrophe, we decided to put our garden on hold and work with more local farms this summer.

After writing about admiring our chickens, we spent the better part of two months babysitting our chickens and attempting to outwit two sets of foxes from dens neighboring our property. Unfortunately, we lost most of our laying hens. We were frustrated and sad. We packed up our remaining “Big Hen” and sent her to live with our friends at their fox-free farm.

And, we either pick ourselves up by our boot straps or throw in the towel. We’re believers in perseverance, so, we rallied.

While Big Hen settled into her temporary residence, we talked to neighbors and fellow chicken owners and devised a new housing/grazing plan for our chickens. Plan in place and equipment ordered, chicks arrived and are growing steadily. Soon Big Hen can return to show them the ropes. Local customers, you can once again enjoy our delightful, deep orangey yolked eggs next spring. It’s a ways away yet, but we haven’t found any comparable replacement, so we're eagerly anticipating the deliciousness.

On the up-side, we spent lots of time outside getting sweaty and dirty - doesn’t sound like an upside to you? Here’s the punch-line: we’re boosting the essential oils in our recipes. Unlike most conventional laundry detergents, the scents in our laundry soaps serve a purpose, some of which are disinfecting and grease/oil cutting. While we were getting sweaty and dirty, and then doing laundry, we noticed that we could still smell essential oils on the way out of the washer, but not as much as in cold, less sweaty weather. This meant that they were doing their job and being put to work, and not hanging around after. BUT, we happen to like the scents of our laundry soaps and like when they hang around a bit at the end of the process. So, we’ve upped the amounts of essential oils we include so they work hard and leave a little extra to still give you that spa experience. Same scents as before, just a little stronger. If you liked your laundry experience better the way it was, and think we’re crazy, let us know! Well - maybe not the crazy part - we already know that.

With less hands-on time in the garden this summer, we spent time adding to our product line-up and rebranding. We’re super excited to be moving from all text based logos to unveiling the logos and branded packaging we’ve worked to create this summer! As you get new shipments of our products, you'll begin to see our new branding. As we work toward winter, I’ll be getting our new branding on our website and things should start to look a bit spiffier. But, important to note, same quality products, just a new look.

We’ve added products! If you’re local to us, and you’ve been wanting to have your own local subscription option so you don’t always have to go to the store and order - it’s here! Check out the store for the new option. We’re adding smooth glass mason jar foaming dispensers for our hand soaps. These are refillable! We now have refill options for all of our hand soap dispensers (even our plastic ones can be refilled and reused).

And… stay tuned, because I did say this was a summer frenzy, and this is only the beginning of the list of the products we’ll be launching to you this fall.

until next time -

Kate
