Coming to a door near you…

Hello there!
How’s it going? We’ve been busy thinking over here.

As a small start-up business, for our Stone Mountain Suds Laundry Soap, we have been doing local pick-up in glass growler jugs. We wanted to be able to deliver a clean product in a container that could be used over and over again, minimized plastic, and was easy to handle. We found our growlers and love them.
Now, to think about reaching the requests we’ve had from folks not local who would like our product, we had to do some thinking. Shipping our glass growlers, full, is exorbitantly expensive, and our goal has been to make this an affordable product of high quality. So that seemed out of reach for now (maybe if shipping prices come down ever for small businesses that could be more reasonable).
Then came a deeper question to consider - is it better to have an option of our product in plastic, as much as we wanted to avoid plastic?
Ultimately, we’ve decided that most available laundry detergents or soaps come in packaging that is hard plastic, usually colored, and it’s only option is landfill bound. Beyond that, the ingredients inside still aren’t good for us, or our water supplies. So, if we could at least put a clean product in a non-recyclable container option, that could ship reasonably and the contents were something we feel good about doing good in our world - then it would be a step in the right direction. And we can continue to seek a recycled or recyclable option that would fit our needs.

After many hours of searching, I think we have the starting point for a solution. We have to order several hundred units of packaging in order to place a first order - which is a lot with a startup on a shoe string budget - so if you might be interested in receiving our product to your doorstep - send me an email at kate.onpointfarm@gmail.com and let me know! But it’s looking like we have enough people for a pilot run, so beginning in January, we’re hoping to have our online store up and rolling [no more having to order by email] and you can have access to our soap in all 48 contiguous states (for now)!

We’re slightly trepidatious about all of the new variables but mostly excited to be able to be available to more households looking for a cleaner solution from a family who dreamed of doing better for all of us!

Until next time,

Kate
